Evening Grosbeak  (Coccothraustes vespertinus)



Large and colorful, the Evening Grosbeak is a welcome winter visitor to bird feeders. Attract these beauties with lots of sunflower seeds.
The male is bright yellow with black and white wings and a slightly forked tail. The female is much duller in coloring, more of a grayish brown with splashes of dull yellow, the juveniles of both sexes resemble the females.
The species is often confused with the much smaller American Goldfinch.

Grosbeak Size: 6-7 inches, wingspan: 12-14 inches, weight: 1.87-2.61 ounces. As compared to the Goldfinches size: 4-5 inches, wingspan: 7-9 inches, weight: 0.39-0.71 ounces.
